What can I expect?
They took his home. They shattered his world. But they could not silence his music.
Discover the extraordinary true story of Władysław Szpilman, the Polish-Jewish pianist and composer whose remarkable survival during the Second World War inspired the internationally acclaimed, Oscar-winning film The Pianist, starring Adrien Brody.
Now, his story comes to the stage in a powerful new musical adaptation, bringing his memories, his humanity and his own compositions together in an unforgettable live theatrical experience.
Warsaw, 1939. As war engulfs Poland, Szpilman's life is torn apart. Once a celebrated pianist performing on Polish radio, he finds himself struggling to survive as the Nazi occupation transforms his beloved city. Separated from his family and forced into hiding, he faces unimaginable loss, isolation and uncertainty.
Yet even in the darkest moments, his connection to music endures.
And through it all, the music remains.
Based on Szpilman's own memoirs, The Pianist brings his extraordinary experiences to life through a company of actor-musicians and the composer's original music. His melodies become part of the storytelling, offering a deeply personal connection to the man behind the remarkable story.
Directed and adapted by Thom Southerland, known for Titanic the Musical, with musical arrangements by Simon Lee, a long-standing collaborator of Andrew Lloyd Webber, this new production offers a moving theatrical interpretation of a story that has touched audiences around the world.
Starring Daniel Krikler as Władysław Szpilman, The Pianist comes to London's Park Theatre, inviting audiences to discover the true story behind the celebrated film – and experience the music of the man who lived it.
One extraordinary life. One unforgettable story. A legacy that lives on through music.
Experience The Pianist – and hear the story behind the silence.
