What can I expect?

A husband disappears. Years later, a man returns claiming to be him. But is he really Martin Guerre? Experience the Olivier Award-winning musical from the creators of Les Misérables in a bold new production at The Old Vic in London.

Inspired by an extraordinary true story from 16th-century France, Martin Guerre is an epic tale of love, identity and deception. When Martin Guerre vanishes from his village, he leaves behind his young wife Bertrande. Years later, a man returns claiming to be her missing husband – setting in motion a gripping story that challenges an entire community to decide where the truth really lies.

Created by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the legendary team behind Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre returns to London in an all-new version featuring new music, new lyrics and folk-inspired orchestrations. This intimate semi-staged production places the music, performances and emotional power of the story at its heart.

Experience Martin Guerre in a thrilling In The Round staging at The Old Vic, bringing audiences closer to the drama as the story unfolds around the stage. Playing for five weeks only, this is a rare opportunity to rediscover one of Boublil and Schönberg's most fascinating musicals in one of London's most iconic theatres.
