What can I expect?

The story is set in South London in 1981. Leon and Troy are two young, black males who are also best friends. Like everyone else trying to break into adulthood, they want to figure out their place in the world, which is at this moment filled with unemployment and racial tension.

They are both trained by a white trainer, Charlie, and though this should bring them together, they actually end up on two different paths: Troy moves to the United States and Leon needs to choose between training and his daughter. However, both paths lead into the world of professional boxing - and that world is more brutal than what they thought.

Roy Williams’ bruising play Sucker Punch looks at what it was like to be a young black man in 1980's Britain and to be part of a system where failure can be attributed to the political climate, all coming down to one final fight. It also asks a very important question: How can you fight a system that’s desperate to see you fail?
